She graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater, concentrating in costume design, and a minor in African American Studies. Her goal is to create costumes that evoke emotional responses and reinforce the narratives' themes. She believes that theatrical collaboration encourages all participants to expand their creative boundaries, to infuse universal themes with specificity, and to respect the integral boundaries of individual processes. MANCUB POV: In our group conversations, we consistently return to the belief that "Mancub" by Douglas Maxwell is a story about Paul as he grapples with adolescence and the societal pressures of masculinity. Throughout the story, the audience watches the internal and external voices within Paul's life at odds as he works to uncover his identity within the confines of adolescence. Regarding costumes, I believe it's essential to capture the reality of this show with street clothing while offsetting that reality with a monochromatic palette. The dyed modern wear reminds the audience that they are in the liminal space of Paul's mind. Amidst the palette, we aim to create a throughline between Luke, Paul, and Dad using darker tones, emphasizing the generational cycle of masculinity that Paul is striving to break. To centralize Paul in this generational family dynamic, we want to highlight the idea of shedding, symbolizing Paul shedding his skin to uncover the person he is beneath internal and societal pressures. As the show goes on, he will shed parts of his costume to reveal distressed garments underneath that will wear and tear as the show progresses until he can finally fly away.
